Stimulate and sustain actions by
the City of Wilmington, New Hanover County, and others to develop facilities
along the riverfront.
Initiate and coordinate efforts
to publicize Wilmington's waterfront area and promote pleasure boating on
the Cape Fear River.
Utilize the varied expertise of
WHET membership to provide ongoing guidance with the planning, development
and management of riverfront activities.
The following are activities that
WHET is currently pursuing:
Assisting City of Wilmington
staff with using grant funds to upgrade toilet facilities and adding shower
facilities at Riverfront Park.
Planning the fourth annual
Invasion of the Pirates Flotilla and Children's Activities on Riverfest
weekend 2009.
Actively contacting operators of
tall ships and sail training programs to invite them to visit Wilmington
and offer tours.
The current bulkhead replacement
project at the Hilton Docks includes the addition of power and water to the
northern dock. This is something that WHET has been seeking since the
docks were built.
Investigating the potential for
Wilmington be an official Host Port for the Tall Ships Challenge in
2009 www.sailtraining.org.
